New Delhi, Jun 30: In a significant development, BJP's national president Nitin Gadkari has reportedly said that the BJP may skip the all-party meeting called by the government in New Delhi on July 3.
Civil society member Anna Hazare had already met L K Advani and discussed the Lokpal Bill draft just two days ago. But on Thursday June 30, Gadkari's statement has come as a shock to the government, as yesterday, while meeting the editors of print media, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had said that the BJP being the main opposition party has not been supporting the government.
Rejecting the PM's claim, Gadkari said that the BJP has always supported the government constructively, and helped to pass several bills in the parliament. He termed the Prime Minister's statement as 'shocking'.
"Now why does UPA want our support for the Lokpal Bill? The government was not bothered about holding dicusssions with us while constituting the civil society and choosing the government representatives. Now the issue has reached its peak, and the government is scared and seeks our support to wriggle out of the problem," Gadkari said.
On the other hand, BJP is keeping mum on whether the Prime Minister should be brought under the ambit of the Lokpal bill or not.
"We are calling NDA meeting soon, and will confirm whether BJP and its allies will participate in the all-party meeting or skip it," Gadkari said.
