Udupi/Mangaluru, Apr 9: Tourist spots in the coastal districts of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada wore a festive look with a large number of tourists thronging various tourist destinations following the extended weekend. With school students enjoying a summer break and the government holidays, tourist spots in the twin districts swelled with tourist numbers. With the completion of the II PUC examinations, a large number of families enjoyed their evenings in various picturesque locales and tourist spots in both the districts.

The number of tourist footfalls in both the districts is steadily increasing in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. This has also translated into a windfall financially in various tourist destinations as more and more tourists are booking rooms thus increasing the demand for hotel accommodation.

Tourists are thronging popular tourist destinations such as the Sri Krishna Math, Malpe Beach, St Mary's Island, Maravanthe Beach, Someshwara Beach, Kollur temple, Kaup lighthouse, Kaup Beach, Karkala's Gomateshwara Hills, Parashurama statue, Kateelu, Kadri temple, Panambur Beach, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Southadka Sri Mahaganapathi Temple and Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple among others in large numbers.

Though the water level in the falls is low, the tourist numbers have not come down. People from the neighbouring districts and from far and wide areas are travelling to the coastal districts during the summer season. As most of the schools are closed for summer vacation during April and May, their families are making the rounds of various tourist destinations as per their scheduled annual travel plan. Similarly, temples and other religious centres are also witnessing an increase in tourist footfalls during the weekends while in the beaches tourists are enjoying their vacations even after the sunset.
