New Delhi, Jul 1: Congress had proposed to organize a mega rally of agriculturists at Bhatta Parsaul village in Uttar Pradesh on July 9. Party general secretary, Rahul Gandhi, was to address the rally, which was proposed to be organized as part of steps to boost the popularity of the party in the state.
On Friday July 1, the state administration declined permission for the rally. The state has expressed fears that the presence of Rahul Gandhi might create law and order problems. At the same time, the Congress has been given a free hand to hold similar rally in any of the urban areas instead of the rural belt.
It may be recalled that Noida district magistrate, Deepak Agarwal, was abruptly transferred on Thursday, apparently for granting permission for staging of agitational programmes at places near Bhatta Prsaul. The IAS officer has been kept waiting for his next place of posting.
