New Delhi, Jul 3: Sunday July 3 will be a significant day in the history of Indian politics with the much-antipitated all-party meeting scheduled to take place at the Prime Minister's residence.
The several unsuccessful meetings between the government-appointed representaves and the civil society have led to the all-party meeting to finalise the draft of the Lokpal Bill.
Earlier, the BJP had threatened to boycott the meet, but later on Saturday, after a meeting with the NDA allies, the party changed its minds.
On Saturday, Gandhian and key member of the civil society Anna Hazare met Sonia Gandhi for 30 minutes and discussed the Lokpal issue. According to Anna Hazare, the meeting was fruitful and he was satified with the outcome.
Anna has reportedly threatened Sonia Gandhi that he would go ahead with his planned fast on August 16, if a 'proper' Lokpal bill is not drafted.
The controversial issue to be discussed at the all-party meeting is inclusion of the Prime Minister under the ambit of Lokpal Bill. The two separate drafts preapred by Government representatives and the civil society will be discussed as well.
On Saturday, Janardhan Dwivedi, general secretary of Congress party had said that the outcome of the all-party meeting will decide the final draft of the Bill.
Apart from Anna Hazare and his team of activists, the meeting will be attended by parties across the political spectrum. BJP and the Left have confirmed their participation. Janata Dal (United) (JD-U), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazagham (AIADMK), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Trinamool Congress, Janata Dal (Secular) (JD-S), Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) will also attend the meeting. Shiv Sena, however, will stay away.
