Delhi, Jul 4 (IANS): The Supreme Court Monday rejected the plea by Haryana legislators Abhay and Ajay Chautala that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) needed prior permission of the assembly speaker before launching prosecution proceedings against them in a disproportionate assets case.
With this, the court of Justices V.S. Sirpurkar and T.S. Thakur have cleared the way for the prosecution of the Indian National Lok Dal legislators by the federal investigative agency.
Abhay and Ajay, sons of former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, are facing trial before a court in Delhi which has already framed charges against them.
Earlier, the Punjab and Haryana High Court had rejected their plea.
