British PM on Afghanistan Visit

Kabul, Jul 5 (IANS): British Prime Minister David Cameron has arrived in Afghanistan for an official visit, a government official said.

Cameron arrived in the country Monday, the official told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

He and Afghan President Hamid Karzai would hold a joint press conference Tuesday.

Britain has over 9,500 troops in Afghanistan serving within the framework of the NATO-International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) to help stabilize the war-battered nation.

Foreign officials often pay unannounced visits to Afghanistan and leave the country secretly due to security reasons.
