Mumbai, Jul 5: A 43-year-old Congress worker has been arrested by the Pant Nagar Police on Sunday July 3 for allegedly raping a 19-year-old student and forwading an MMS of the heinious act.
After the incident last year he asked her to marry him. When the victim refused Prahlad Lokhande, the accused, allegedly blackmailed her forcing her to marry him.
Lokhande is the president of the north-east district Congress committee at ward number 128 in Kamraj Ghatkoper (east). He has been charged under sections 376, 494, 501 and 506 of the IPC and remanded in judicial custody till July 8.
Lokahnde's cell phone has been sent to Kalina forensic laboratory for recovering the clip which police suspect he might have deleted. Lokhande reportedly married two women from Ghatkopar and Chembur before forcing the victim to marry him in September last year, police added.
When victim's parents came to know about the alleged rape and forced marriage in Bandra court, her mother met commissioner of police Arup Patnaik and demanded the police to take stringent action against Lokhande who was accused in a murder few years back.
