New Delhi, Jul 5: Corporate Affairs Minister Murli Deora has handed over his resignation from the council of ministers ahead of the proposed cabinet reshuffle.
Deora offered to step down from the union cabinet due to personal reasons. However, there is no confirmation if the resignation has been accepted.
A office-bearer of Congress said that the minister had handed over his resignation to party president Sonia Gandhi last week and it is learnt to have pushed for son Milind Deora's inclusion as minister of state in the council.
Sources say that Deora's offer to work for Congress was consistent with the call from the party high command that senior ministers shoulf engage in party work.
Before taking charge as the Minister of Corporate Affairs, Deora was the Petroleum Minister where he was alleged to have proximity with certain industrial houses.
