Udupi, Apr 18: Kasturba Medical College (KMC) celebrated college day and awards ceremony to acknowledge the academic achievements of the students. The event was commenced by Dr Sulatha. Marking the start of the auspicious event, the student council president Shivani offered a floral tribute to the founder of MAHE, Dr. TMA Pai.

In this event,Dean Dr Padmaraj Hedge of MAHE addressed the distinguishing career of Padmashri Dr Ravi Kannan, the chief guest acknowledging “the leaps he had taken in the field of surgical oncology”. During the event, Dr Sharath K Rao pro vice chancellor – Health Sciences along with MAHE officials grace the occasion.

He further elaborated on the achievements of KMC stating how- “The year was a success story which witnessedinnumerable achievements garnered by the college ranging from the NIRF ranking, the advancement in the field of research, the success of the established simulation centres, the approval of various patents registered due to the remarkable quality of treatment along with numerous accolades and awards.”.

After the felicitation of the founder of MAHE, the esteemed Dean Dr Padmaraj Hegde graciously welcomed the chief guest Padmashri Dr Ravi Kannan, the vice deans, the chancellor, and the vice-chancellor. Following the felicitation, Kanthilata Pai and Dr Ravi Kannan presented the Faculty Awards which included the Distinguished Alumni Award, Award for Best Research, and Best AV Material Award which was awarded to Dr Sandeep Kumar, Dr Anil Pai, Dr Samir respectively.

In this event, the student council president Shivini stated in detail regarding the awards won by KMC in many outstation fests, Dr HS Ballalpresented the PG awards where Dr Harsh Sharma was awarded as the Best Outgoing Student.

Dr HS Ballal, pro chancellor of MAHE, Manipal stated his appreciation regarding the “the hard work, dedication, and commitment put forward by the faculty and the students to make this event possible.”

Speaking on the occasion Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, vice chancellor MAHE Manipal said that “he was glad to be a part of the event where the faculty and the students showcased a night to remember. Further he encouraged all the students to follow the ethics and footstep of Dr TMAL Pai, the founders’ of Manipal”

After the PG awards were given, the UG Awards for academic excellence were presented by Dr Sulatha Bhandari, Dr Chandani, Dr Shashidhar, and Dr Bharathi: for 1st MBBS- Priyanshi Rastogi, Rashmicaa Chand, Vanshita Kapoor, Jahnavi Gupta, Nirbhay Singhal, Yogesh Bembey, Vaishnavi Katiyarl, Akshat Sinha, Krishti Krishnakanta Gogoi, Jasmine Arora, Ishita Agarwal, Maneesha Sharmna; followed by the 2nd MBBS- Raghav Gupta, Shreya Mehul Mehta, Isha Tripathi, Sai Shriya Yadavalli, Stuti Arora, Anirudh Rao, Navya Gupta, Sidharth Nanda, Tanya Jaiswal, Nazneen Hassan. After that, the 3rd MBBS year- Mrunmayee Rahul Nerlikar, Desai Kashish Mukesh, Aniketh Umesh, Gagan Shetty, Pradnayan Agarwal, Ishan Pathak, Anushka Chabra, Aarthi Mohandas, Tushar Bansal, Agarwal Kavisha Sharad; and the 4th MBBS year- Sidhant Sahajpal, Radhika Chandra, Harsh Sharma, Akshata M Kamath Ammembal, Lavanya, Saishreeram Kandula, Jeanne Marria Dsouza, Vartika Singh, Kautilya Raj Devgarh and Ketan Bhagat were given.

Once the prize distribution was over, the event was finally wrapped up by the most anticipated performances by various departments ranging from an entertaining dance performance by Aaghaz, KMCs beloved dramatics club who presented Mad Ads for Pushpa Broom followed by the fashion show featuring Dr Kailash Balakrishnan, Dr. Hubin, Dr. Vinay Khanna, Dr. Maradi, Dr. Pandey, Dr. Neetu, Dr Chandni, Dr Palimar, Dr Suletha, Dr Manali Hazarika, Dr Rohit, Dr Vinod Nayak, Dr Anil Bhatt and the fan favourite Dean as Don.
