Udupi, Apr 21: Dr D Srikanth Rao has been appointed as the chief executive officer of Mangalore Institute of Oncology (MIO), Udupi and Thirthahalli. Dr Rao was the former director, Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal.
On behalf of the management and staff of MIO, Dr Rao was warmly welcomed by Dr Y Sanath Hegde, director, Outreach Clinics and Radiation Oncologist, MIO.
While welcoming him to their fold, Dr Hegde said that his services would further add to the tireless efforts of MIO in providing excellent services to people afflicted with cancer and their care-givers to cope with the disease.
Dr Rao outlined that the fifty bed MIO hospital at Thirthahalli will be established at an estimated cost of Rs 25 crores. Additionally, MIO-Udupi will have a hundred bed state-of-the-art cancer hospital at a cost of about Rs 50 crores.
These initiatives will enable to provide affordable and quality services for people afflicted with cancer in and around Udupi, Uttar Kannada, Chitradurga and Shivamogga districts. The projects will be funded by investors, banks and MIO.
Dr Rao also stated that MIO with its principled adherence to ethics and empathy will continue providing affordable high-quality services based on international guidelines for early detection and treatment of cancer.
