Share-broking Firm Owner's Wife Found Dead in Gurgaon

Gurgaon, July 6 (IANS): A married woman, who had accused her husband of having an extra-marital affair, was found dead at her home Tuesday, police said. Her family members alleged she was murdered.

The body of Ruchi Gupta, 28, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the house where she lived with her husband and in-laws in DLF Phase II. Her husband, Sumit Gupta, is a well-known share broker and owns the Angel Broking firm in Delhi.

"Before her love marriage with Sumit, Ruchi was an employee in the same company. They got married in 2005. Over an year after their marriage, they started quarrelling over some issue," said Babulal, station house officer of DLF Phase II police station.

According to Ruchi's family, Sumit had an affair with a Mumbai-based model and killed his wife to get her out of the way.

"My sister was against this relation. That is why Sumit wanted to eliminate Ruchi," said Shafali, sister of Ruchi.

"We got a phone call in the morning Tuesday from Sumit`s parents that Ruchi has hanged herself," said her mother Sudha. "Yesterday (Monday) night Ruchi had talked to me on phone. She was saying that Sumit would kill her. At that time I assured her that we will come in the morning and will look in the matter," she added.

Police have registered a case under section 304 B (dowry death) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code against the husband and the Mumbai-based model.

"We have registered a case against Sumit Gupta under sections 304B, 120B and 34 of IPC. We have detained Sumit and further investigation is on," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Maheshwar Dayal.
