Lucknow, Jul 6: Rahul Gandhi's ambitious Padyatra could stop anytime on Wednesday July 6, as the young Congress hero faces arrest threat from UP administration, for violating section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code in Aligarh.

The official statement on the issue is yet to come but there is speculation of possible arrest of AICC General secretary, who has already covered a distance of about 27km on foot.

Rahul is expected to arrive at Aligarh late in the evening. The district administration has deployed forces at Aligarh following instructions from Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati.

Senior Congress leaders ruling out such speculation of arrest asked that what is the need of imposing section 144 when Gandhi is leading the Padyatra peacefully, without troubling anyone?

Rahul is attracting more media attention as his Padyatra progresses and several youngsters have joined him on the walk.

During the day, Rahul visited villages and had simple food prepared by a farmer family. He listened to sorrows of the local farmers and the sympathetic leader extended his moral support. He also urged them to participate in the Mahapanchayat to be held at Aligarh.

A number of villagers complained about the large scale acquisition of farm lands by UP government. He visited some more villages in the evening as part of his efforts to build the party base.
