Dhaka, Jul 7 (IANS): At least seven people were killed when a ferry with over 50 passengers on board capsized in a Bangladesh river Wednesday evening, officials said.

The vessel capsized around 7 p.m. in Sitalakhya river in Narayanganj district, 17 km from the capital Dhaka, after being struck by an oil tanker, Xinhua reported.

"We've so far recovered seven bodies from the sunken ferry," said Sheikh Md Mizanur Rahman, a senior fire brigade official.

Many passengers were able to swim to the shore after the accident. But dozens were still missing, he said.
