All is Not Over for Maran, It’s Just the Beginning

New Delhi, Jul 7: Dayanidhi Maran is the second cabinet minister to resign from UPA II cabinet on 2G scam. Earlier this year, A Raja telecom minister was forced to resign for his alleged involvement in crores of rupees’ scam. He was later arrested by CBI and is still in Tihar jail.
That was the first blow for DMK, UPA's partner at centre.
The second blow hit DMK when former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Karunanidhi's daugter Kanimohi was arrested in the similar scam. She is also fighting to get bail in the court and is currently in Tihar Jail
On Thursday, Jul 7 DMK was hit by another blow when union textile minister Dayanidhi Maran reportedly resigned from Manmohan Singh cabinet. Under tremendous pressure from media and opposition, Maran has quit even before the FIR was filed by CBI. Until now, no case has been filed against him, but he has quit on the basis of allegations.
This morning, while attending the cabinet meeting Maran reportedly told his cabinet colleague - 'All is over’, that was the signal given by him indicating his resignation.
Though media has extensively reported about his resignation, neither government nor Maran has confirmed his resignation.
A senior journalist Cho Ramaswami, from Chennai speaking to a tv channel said that "All is not over for Maran, but it's just beginning". On being questioned about the statement he said "Now the process will begin to send him too Tihar jail, where he will join his party colleagues and family members A Raja and Kanhimoli!”
But opposition, BJP is still not happy with just the resignation. A spokesperson told media that, "It's too late. It was long pending one, he should have resigned long back"
With DMK suffering blow one after the other with 2G scam, now its interesting to see, how long DMK will continue to partner with UPA in centre.
However, certain reporters from Chennai say that, DMK patriarch Karunanidhi is expected to stay away from Maran episode, as there are slim chances that he would support Maran. Since party image is already affected badly, Karunandhi is in search for damage control mode.
It would be interesting too see, from now on, how long it will take Maran to reach Tihar Jail. All eyes are on CBI to file the FIR. His reported scam of 650 crore in SUN Direct project is sure to storm the nation in near future, as he has misused the power to promote his family business.
