New Delhi, July 7 (IANS) The Supreme Court will Friday hear a petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of Lucknow deputy chief medical officer Y.S. Sachan, who allegedly committed suicide while he was in jail.
The plea was filed by the doctor's family, which claimed that the Uttar Pradesh government was engaged in a cover-up and trying to give the incident the colour of suicide.
The apex court bench of Justice Altamas Kabir and Justice Cyriac Joseph asked counsel Kamini Jaiswal, appearing for Sachan's family, to route the petition through the court registry. The court said this when she mentioned the matter before it Thursday.
Sachan, the prime accused in chief medical officer B.P. Singh's murder, was June 22 found dead in mysterious circumstances in the washroom of Lucknow district jail hospital where he was under treatment.
He was found dead just a day before he was to be taken to court with other three accused - Ram Krishna Verma, Anand Tewari and Vinod Sharma.
