Rights panel reminds officials about Ramdev report

New Delhi, July 8 (IANS) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Friday issued reminders to the union home secretary and the Delhi chief secretary for their reports on the midnight crackdown on yoga guru Baba Ramdev which are still awaited.

"On June 6, they (home secretary and Delhi chief secretary) along with the Delhi Police Commissioner were asked by the commission to submit their reports into the circumstances leading to such an action within two weeks," the commission said, in a statement.

"However, so far only the Delhi Police Commissioner has responded to NHRC's notice with a report," it added.

There was a police crackdown on Ramdev and his followers in a yoga camp in Delhi's Ramlila ground in the early hours June 5.

The commission sought information on the reason for the crackdown, how many people were missing and injured and what steps have been taken to compensate them or help their families.
