Srinagar, July 9 (IANS) One separatist guerrilla was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district Saturday, police said.
According to police, a house in Gulshanabad village of Pulwama district, 42 km from here, was surrounded late Friday after specific intelligence inputs that three militants had taken shelter there.
"The militants were told to lay down their weapons but they started firing, triggering a gunbattle," a police officer said.
"One militant has been killed while the gunfight is still going on," the officer added.
Unconfirmed reports said that a minor girl and an old lady were also holed up inside the house and the security forces were proceeding with utmost caution to ensure the safety of the two civilians.
