Aligarh, Jul 9: The mahapanchayath is scheduled to be held here on Saturday July 9, putting an end to the Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi’s padyatra.
The party leaders in the state are expecting many farmers and villagers to gather at the mahapanchayat.
On his padyatra Gandhi had stopped at nearly 25 villages to speak to farmers and discuss their problems mainly on land acquisition issues.
Security has been thickened following the arrest of a man with a revolver in the vicinity of the yatra.
Addressing to the farmers Gandhi said that the yatra was an eye opener as he got to learn a lot from them than from his time in the Lok Sabha.
The young congress leader assured the farmers that the UPA government will bring forward a new land acquisition bill will be in their favour.
