Chandigarh, Jul 10 (IANS): Three people were arrested in Punjab's Jalandhar district with heroin worth Rs.40 crore smuggled from Pakistan, police said Sunday.
"On a tip off, we laid a trap on the outskirts of Jalandhar Friday night and intercepted a white car. We recovered eight kg of high-quality heroin," Assistant Inspector General of Counter-Intelligence Cell Opinderjit Singh Ghumman told IANS.
"It was smuggled from Pakistan as the packets have impressions of Pakistan stamps in Urdu language. The three accused were supposed to sell these drugs in different parts of the country," Ghumman said.
Those arrested have been identified as Bhag Singh -- a resident of Amritsar, Gurwant Singh and Jaskaran Singh, both residents of Tarn Taran district.
