Rare Chaplin footage found

London, July 10 (IANS) A 40-year-old man in Britain has found a rare 1916 footage of Charlie Chaplin that also shows a bombing scene over London.

Brian Hann spent just a few pounds on a small box, but found inside a 35 mm film, the Daily Express reported.

The seven-minute footage is part of a World War I film called "Zepped" that stars Chaplin and shows scenes of a Zeppelin bombing over London.

Believed to be the only copy, the footage has been put up for sale at Bonhams auction house in London, with 100,000 pounds as asking price.

"There's Chaplin reading a newspaper while leaning against a tree and there's a wartime message about saving food," Hann said about the film.

It's fitting that a film about Charlie Chaplin lay lost and forgotten in a second-hand shop - it could be the script for one of his films. Chaplin himself was "lost and forgotten" as a child growing up in poverty on the streets of London, only to be discovered much later for his true value.

Readers may also be interested to view my own little film about Charlie called, "London remembers Charlie Chaplin." It celebrates the little man's birth in London in 1889, because of course Charlie Chaplin was a Londoner. My 4-minute video is free to watch on my YouTube channel at www.EyesEars.com:
