Lucknow, Jul 10: In a major tragedy that occured in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday July 10, atleast 20 were people killed and 100 injured when the Howrah - Kalka Express Mail derailed at around 12.30 pm.
Sources said that 10 bogies were mangled, and many more casualties may emerge.
Mukul Roy, minister of state for railways, has informed that a probe team is being instituted to find the actual cause for the derailment.
It is learnt that the emergency brake was applied near Fatehpur and Kanpur stations, but exact cause is not known.
Five AC bogies, three sleepers and five general compartment bogies were among the dereailed. Sources have informed that passengers are still being rescued from the site.
Earlier, Mukul Roy announced a compensation of Rs 5 lac and Rs 1 lac to the families of those killed and injured in the tragedy.
