Guwahati, July 10 (IANS) Some coaches of the Guwahati-Puri Express derailed at Nalbari district in western Assam Sunday, officials said, adding that casualties were feared.
The accident occurred near Ghograpara at around 8.30 p.m. as the train was on its way to Puri.
Police and railway teams were rushing to the spot.
Police and railway officials said they were not sure whether the derailment was caused by a blast or sabotage by militants or a technical fault. Local villagers, however, claimed to have heard a loud explosion before the accident.
The accident comes on the day 14 coaches of the speeding Kalka Mail derailed in Uttar Pradesh, killing about 35 people and leaving at least 150 injured.
