Man arrested in Lucknow for killing fiance

Lucknow, May 11 (IANS): A 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his fiance on the day the two were supposed to get married.

Komal Kashyap, 22, had gone missing on May 4, the day she was supposed to get married to Rahul Maurya.

According to the FIR, the girl's parents said that the marriage could not be solemnised on the scheduled day as Komal left the house for a beauty parlour but did not return home.

"When the parents contacted Rahul, he feigned ignorance and pretended to help the family in locating the woman," said DCP, Central Zone, Aparna Rajat Kaushik.

"When we came to know that Rahul had not gotten any new clothes stitched for the wedding, he became a suspect for us. Initially, he kept changing statements to mislead the police. However, on intense grilling, he confessed to killing Komal," said the DCP.

Rahul said that he killed Komal because she had threatened to commit suicide on refusal of marriage, and that was the only way to get rid of her.

"He was also in a relationship with another girl, supposedly rich. He thought marrying that girl would change his fortunes," the police said.

"The miscreant told police that he took Komal to the Picnic Spot Road where he strangled her to death with a dupatta and abandoned the body there," said SHO, Mahanagar, Prashant Mishra.

The DCP added that the body of the victim was recovered after scanning CCTVs and checking the tower dumps (telephone calls) helped in locating it.

Rahul worked as an electrician and is a resident of Jankipuram locality. He had got in touch with Komal through social media and was in a relationship for the last three years.
