Mumbai, Jul 11 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities markets Monday closed 139 points lower as traders continued to book profits after the recent rally.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), which opened at 18,823.19 points, closed at 18,721.39 points (provisional), down 136.65 points or 0.72 percent from its previous close at 18,858.04 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange also closed lower at 5,616.9 points, down 0.77 percent.
Broader markets too edged lower with the BSE midcap index closing 0.31 percent down and the BSE smallcap index ending 0.42 percent lower.
