Kolkata, Jul 11: L K Advani on Sunday July 10 said that the UPA government was trying to promote the Gandhi family as a 'brand' on the pretext undertaking development projects.
He pointed out there are at least 450 projects in the country in the name of Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Rajiv Gandhi. He said crores were being spent on promoting the Gandhi name.
He said the centre is focusing its attention on creating a brand out of the family name, such that it seems the Independence of the country and its subsequent development has been brought about by only one family and no one else.
He blamed the government for trying to replace democratic rule with dynastic rule of the Gandhis.
Advani also said that he had raised the question regarding this in the parliament when five new projects were named after Nehru, Indira and Rajiv Gandhi.
