Udupi: Four injured in serial accident at Padubidri junction

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (SS)

Udupi, May 17: Four people were injured at the Padubidri junction identified as an accident zone on Tuesday, May 16, in a serial accident.

The Padubidri junction is the meeting point of the state highway and the Padubidri highway where a Karkala-bound bus coming from Mulky collided with a lorry coming from Udupi. As a result of the impact of the collision the bus hit the traffic booth and went on to collide with a stationary auto rickshaw that was ready for hire. The auto driver exhibited presence of mind who sensed an imminent accident and left his vehicle before he ran to safety. The bus which hit the auto rickshaw came to a halt but the auto turned turtle badly mangling the vehicle in the process.

Bus driver Pramod, passenger Dayanand Mulky and two women were injured due to the accident.

Padubidri police have registered a case against the bus driver and are investigating.

Surathkal junction is another disaster zone esp when going from Mangaluru to Udupi (below the flyover)...local bjp corporators might have muscled NHAI engineers to make a joke of a road at Surathkal junction...

Present flyover at Surathkal is useless. They should have either constructed a 2-way flyover or no flyover at all.

You need to come to DK/ Udupi to witness the fancy orchestra shrill Horns installed in the private buses. Always you get a feeling whether you've paid the ticket for travelling or for a thrill ride.

Padubidri desperately requires a flyover. I think in the original plan, NH 66 did have a flyover or a bypass at Padubidri but was forced to change by the local businesses Udupi and DK have stood with BJP come what may. Hopefully atleast now, BJP at centre can consider and expedite providing flyovers and underpasses at all junctions on the highway

Padubidri highway stretch and surrounding bi-lanes are most unscientific in nature. Mindless planning at its peak and hence accident-prone cluster. A flyover like Kaup would certainly help ease situation and save some lives!

Inspite of so many accidents caused by them, these rowdy bus drivers will never learn. High time these private bus jokers get taken off the roads and replaced by KSRTC on ALL routes operated by these private buses.
