Puttur, May 17: Puttur police have arrested nine persons in connection with a flex banner put up near the KSRTC bus station on Monday late in the night. The accused had in the banner criticised and lampooned the state BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel and MP D V Sadananda Gowda for their alleged role in helping the Congress bag a majority in the assembly elections. The banner also saw the leaders being garlanded by slippers.
The arrested accused persons are Avinash, Shivarama, Chaitresh, Eshwar, Nishanth, Deekshith and Guruprasad, who are residents of Narimogaru. Earlier on Monday evening, Shivarama and Madhava of Narimogaru had also been arrested. Police are on the lookout for two others accused in this connection who are also likely to be arrested.
A case has been registered against all the accused for causing unrest in society. Later, all the accused were released after the police took an undertaking in writing from them, it is learnt.
It is also learnt that the accused arrested are said to be Hindu activists and the leader of Sangh Parivar Arun Kumar Puthila visited the DySP's office on Monday late in the night and enquired about the arrests made by the police.
