Mangaluru, May 17: The Congress party must approach the matter cautiously, considering the demand from the Muslim community for Shri Siddaramaiah to be appointed as the Chief Minister.
The support of the Muslim community played a significant role, accounting for 90% of the Congress's backing in the recent assembly elections across Karnataka. The primary reason for this overwhelming support is Shri Siddaramaiah's leadership, not the local candidates.
The Muslim community prioritizes peace, harmony, and fraternity in the country, qualities exemplified by the socially-minded and progressive politician Shri Siddaramaiah, unlike any other leader.
Discussions within the Muslim community, including on social media, emphasize the need for Shri Siddaramaiah to assume the role of Chief Minister. It is crucial that our demands be taken seriously.
In light of this, Congress leaders should reflect on historical trends. In states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and many others, the decline of the Congress can be attributed, in large part, to the estrangement of the Muslim community.
While communities like Okkaligas, Lingayats, and Kurubas did not contribute more than 40% of their strength to the Congress party, the 70 lakh Muslim voters, constituting 95% of our population, overwhelmingly supported the Congress, resulting in the party winning 135 seats.
Therefore, we unanimously appeal to the Congress High Command to appoint Shri Siddaramaiah, a leader who genuinely cares for the country's poor and possesses a clear ideological foundation, as the Chief Minister of Karnataka.
