Chennai, Jul 13: The Chennai Police summoned Sun TV Network chairman and managing director Kalanidhi Maran for questioning against his aide Hansraj Saxena on Wednesday July 13.

Saxena has been charged with defrauding and intimidating a film distributor.

Police officials said that Maran’s lawyers have requested for some more time for his appearance at the police station as he had some pre-fixed appointments until July 26.

Last week, his brother Dayanidhi Maran resigned from his post of Union Textile Minister following allegations of misuse of power as telecom minister and of setting up a mini-telephone exchange at his Chennai residence to supply 323 telephone lines to Kalanidhi’s Sun Network at taxpayer expense.

Kalanidhi’s aide Saxena was arrested on charges of cheating and breach of trust following a complaint of fraud by film distributor T S Selvaraj of Salem-based Kandan Films who alleged that Saxena had not paid Rs 82. 53 lac to him.

After his arrest, Saxena has been named in eight more cases involving production and distribution of two other Tamil films, including Rajnikanth-starrer Endhiran, which was produced by Sun Pictures and released last year.

Sun TV’s stock was down 1.7% at Rs 302.50 in noon trading on Wednesday on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
