Udupi, May 23: Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M has instructed officials to promptly implement precautionary measures to prevent property damage and loss of lives during the upcoming rainy season's floods and natural calamities. He made these remarks while chairing the district disaster management meeting held at the DC's auditorium today.
Rao emphasized, "Compensation for damages caused by natural calamities should be provided within 48 hours. A district-level control room has been established, with toll-free numbers 1077 and 0820-2574802. Mescom helpline number is 1912, and for rescue operations, dial 112."
He further stated, "Efforts should be made to ensure free flow of water by cleaning drains and installing street lights. Special attention should be given to areas prone to landslides. Immediate response to public complaints is essential."
Rao also addressed other crucial matters, noting, "Drinking water is currently being supplied by 14 tankers in the city and 32 tankers in rural areas. It is important to prevent water stagnation and control the spread of mosquitoes. Repairs at schools and Anganwadis should be completed by the end of this weekend."
He added, "Warning signs should be installed at seashores, and roadside trees posing hazards should be trimmed. Timely supply of sufficient paddy seeds to farmers must be ensured."
The meeting was attended by District Panchayat CEO Prasanna H, District SP Hakay Akshay Machindra, IAS officer under training Yathish, Additional DC Madan Mohan, Taluk Tahsildar, local officers, and district-level officers from various departments.
