D K Shivakumar reaches Delhi, to discuss cabinet expansion with top brass

New Delhi, May 24 (IANS): Four days after taking oath, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who is also the state Congres chief, arrived here on Wednesday to meet the top party leadership to discuss various issues including the cabinet expansion.

Shivakumar is, on Thursday, likely to meet Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence to discuss the cabinet expansion and other issues related to the state.

Interacting to media after his arrival, he said: "I am here to meet the party leadership to discuss various issues including the expansion of the state cabinet."

He said that they have to fulfil the promises they had made to the people of Karnataka and also ruled out any internal rumblings in the party.

Siddaramaiah took as the Karnataka Chief Minister on Saturday, with Shivakumar as his deputy in the presence of several top Congress and opposition party leaders in Bengaluru.

Besides Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar, eight more ministers took oath on Saturday, and 20 are likely to be appointed in the coming days.

Before the swearing in ceremony, the party leadership had held long discussion with both the leaders to finalise the cabinet list. A party source said that on Thursday, all issues related to cabinet expansion and how to fulfill the promises will also be discussed in the meeting.

Congress had won 135 out of 224 seats in the May 10 voting whereas the BJP was reduced to 66 and the JD-S could manage to get only 19 seats.

It is good to obtain consensus of senior leadership. Meanwhile, I hope the promise made to the WAQF board on the 3 ministerial berths honored . The consolidated votes from our community was instrumental for the Congress victory in 76 seats. This was the primary factor that ensured Congress a thumping majority. The vote percentage shift from JDS to the Congress is self explanatory.

Yes Sister. Lets all hope so. We have stood by the Congress and proved it with actions. Even dared to move our backsides and get on the roads when required. The CAA protests! Samajdhaar ko Ishaara Khaafi.

Dear DKS and Siddu Sir. Resolve the 'guarantee ' scheme first. Its snowballing to a big issue !!! Adjacent to the college where I teach here in Tumkur. All residents have sent back the Mescom Billing agent. They have been told by DKS and Siddu, that the moment Congress wins they do not have to pay electricity. The Gowda ladies have even denied to take Bus Tickets and quarelling with the conductor. As I type , there is a huge crowd with media questioning them. Thanks Claudy.

Kujuma Kodial. Your happiness is justified. For sure the freebies will be rolled out. But with conditions, It will be only for BPL card holders. This card is gen possessed by only the 'common factor' irrespective of their wealth. Most of the middle and lower middle class of other caste do NOT have this. So its obvious who is going to gain from all this. We will be left only with Dukra Mass and Soro.
