New Delhi, Jul 14 (IANS): A day after serial blasts hit Mumbai, South Mumbai MP Milind Deora Thursday said gaps in intelligence need to be filled.

"To be very specific, intelligence gathering is still an area where we need to improve upon. We need to understand and give credible inputs," said Deora, who was appointed minister of state for communication and information technology Tuesday.

He added that even as 99 percent of the attacks were averted, one percent remained where people lost their loved ones.

"As the home minister (P. Chidambaram) said earlier, it's not that intelligence inputs are not there with police or central intelligence agencies," Deora told news channel NDTV.

"Ninetynine percent of the times, they do manage to stop attacks but sadly that one percent is when we all lose our loved ones. This one percent is very critical. we have to make it 100 percent fool proof," he added.

At least 17 people have been killed and 131 injured when three blasts rocked the city Wednesday evening. The terror attacks took place in central and south Mumbai - in Dadar, Zaveri Bazaar and Opera House areas.

Deora visited the blast sites with Chidambaram Wednesday night.

"When there are attacks on India, Mumbai gets attacked and south Mumbai gets attacked. I know people whom my family know for 30 years lose their lives. I too feel a kind of anguish but I do want to assure people as a member of government that the central and state governments are doing their level best to improve the situation," Deora said.
