Transport minister Ramalinga Reddy to hold meeting on free bus travel for women

Bengaluru, May 29 (IANS): Karnataka's Minister for Transport Ramalinga Reddy will hold a high-level meeting on Monday to take a call on the implementation of free bus travel for women, one the five major poll promises of the Congress.

Speaking to reporters, Reddy stated that the government will have to pay money for the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in this regard to recover the losses.

"I am holding a high level meeting on Monday and all decisions in this regard will be taken," he said.

"We will ensure the opposition does not raise the matter anymore. The cabinet decision is final. As for the Gruha Laxmi scheme where women heads would be given Rs 2,000 per month, some have accounts and many don't. The accounts have to be opened for them," the Minister maintained.

"The opposition is feeling the heat and they are jealous about popular schemes being implemented and creating confusion. BJP is a party of a bundle of lies. In 2018, they had given 600 assurances and they couldn't fulfil them. They (opposition) need not take any risks, we will implement all guarantee schemes.

"The BJP Prime Minister had promised to transfer Rs 15 lakh for all accounts and create two crore jobs every year. Let them fulfil those promises first," he taunted.

Responding to reports that he was unhappy about allocation of the transport portfolio, Reddy stated that this is not about being happy or unhappy.

"We have to carry out the job entrusted to us. The cabinet posts are not permanent. The ministers will change and portfolios are also going to be changed. I have not gone to the doorstep of any leader lobbying for a portfolio. You can confirm this with Chief Mnister Siddaramaiah. When I worked as the Minister of Transport earlier for four months, the department had got many awards," he maintained.

India is still a Third World and Poor Country labelled universally. Thats because most chosen of selected Ministers in Karnataka or other States get Portfolios in what they do not have any special education nor any exposure nor any experience. take for example this Minister Ramalinga Reddy , I can bet he has not taken a ride in years in a KSRTC bus! Free travel on government owned and run in Karnataka, the KSRTC which is a very good and well connected transport company will put them at a further loss, so who pays for the Congress loud mouths free travel for women guarantee, and for how long? Thats the reason we are backward, meaning our selected people in parties running only for power bring our nation down to poverty and backwardness. I hope the Prime Minister will object to this type of a promise or guarantee that was used as a means to garner votes. Congress party is not a corporation nor do they support the country's economy, so these promises or steps being now thought of because of BJP' s evil ways of dividing the society by being critical, and should not be allowed.

Bus transport locally should be free for all, women and men alike. By giving only to women the government is taking money out of all people, women and men alike. But, have separate buses for women only; let men have their own and fight against each other if they want when boarding or within the bus to even the score.

Chandra: Assaults against women are unheard of in Germany and other western countries. It is a sad occurrence in India, and that is why there are separate women's compartments in trains, both suburban and long distance, and seldom occurs in that mode of transport; but in buses, it is the opposite story - most often sexual assaults such as groping and indencent contacts.

This is called a government by the people, of the people and for the people. 🙏 BJP looted the people and spent on statues and Cow welfare. Crores and crores taxpayers' money lavishly spent on election campaign and and buying MLA's there by toppling legally elected governments. At this rate without any doubts, congress will pave the way in stride for next LS elections for sure. BJP, TUMARA NATAK KATHAM.

Free bus travel for women is highly appreciated. But please don't put the burden on men and senior citizens. Railways have still not reinstated concessions for senior citizens (stopped during covid pandemic) while MPs continuing availing full benefits.
