Mangaluru, May 31: Additional district and sessions (FTSC-1 POCSO) court of the city sentenced accused, who sexually harassed a minor girl, to three years in prison and also slapped fine.
Rajeev P M (37), resident of Cherkala, Kasargod is the accused who is convicted. On June 28, 2019, the accused followed the minor girl, who was going back home after finishing her tuition classes, from Ladyhill and pulled her hand. When the girl tried to free her hand from his grip, he molested her. A case in this regard was filed at Barke police station.
Sub inspector Umesh Uppalike conducted inquiry and filed chargesheet. Justice Manjula Itti, who conducted the inquiry pronounced accused guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison and fined Rs 5000 under column 8 of POCSO act, one year of simple imprisonment under column 354 of IPC and one month imprisonment under column 341 of IPC. He was also fined Rs 6000 as fine.
In addition, the judge also directed to provide compensation for the victim girl. Special public prosecutor Sahana Devi argued for the prosecution.
