Kasargod, Jun 2: Once again, miscreants set fire on the Executive Express train that was arriving at Kannur from Alappuzha, early in the morning on Thursday June 1.

Fire was lit on the same train on April 2 by extremists. Fortunately, the act is done at 2 am after all the passengers alight from the train.

The train reached Kannur railway station at 11.06 pm on May 31. It was stationed at eighth yard. The railway staff noticed fire erupting from the third bogie at around 1.05 am of June 1. They immediately informed the fire service personnel. The fire service team which arrived on the spot, separated the third bogie from the rest of the compartments. The fire was put off after a few hours of effort.

The doors and glasses of the compartment that was behind the one in which the fire was lit, are smashed by the culprits. It is suspected that the miscreants have entered the third compartment through the bogie, the glasses and doors of which were smashed.

The NIA, Railway police and top officials of railway security force have arrived on the spot. Canine squad and track dog squad have also been brought to track the culprits.

The act of lighting fire to the bogie is caught on a CCTV camera in the vicinity. A miscreant is seen arriving towards the bogie from the BPCL warehouse that is nearby to the spot of the incident.

Police have taken one person into custody with regards to the crime. However, they denied giving more information.

On April 2, the fire was set on the same train at Yelattur. A girl and two women had jumped out of the train out of fear and died as they fell on the railway tracks. The extremist, who entered the bogie when the train was running, poured petrol on the passengers and lit fire. Delhi extremist Sharukh Saifee was arrested in this connection. Though the NIA took up the investigation, they could not confirm the motive behind the act or the organisation to which the accused belonged.
