Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), July 18 (IANS) Motorcycles worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in a major fire that broke out in a two-wheeler showroom here Monday, police said. No casualty has been reported in the blaze.
The fire broke out in the Hero-Honda showroom in Brahmapuri, following which six fire tenders were pressed into service.
"It was a massive fire that spread to all the corners of the showroom. It took over three hours for the fire-fighters to bring the situation under control," police inspector Alok Sharma told reporters in Meerut, some 500 km from Lucknow.
"As many as 80 motorbikes, along with computers and other gadgets, were completely destroyed in the blaze," he added.
There were no customers inside the showroom when the fire broke out.
An electric short-circuit is believed to have caused the blaze, but the exact cause is yet to be ascertained.
