Sushil Modi Elected Chairman of Empowered Committee of FMs

New Delhi, Jul 18: Bihar deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi has been appointed as the new chairman of the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministry on Monday July 18.

Modi was formally elected as chairman at a meeting of the state finance minsters with union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee. He will be replacing Asim Dasgupta, who had served the post for over a decade since the formation of the body.

The committee earlier had overseen the implementationof the value-added tax regime.

Modi also has the responsibility of building a consensus on the proposed GST regime, which has been pending for years.
