Karkala: Pedestrian death in accident – Driver arrested, vehicle confiscated

Karkala, Jun 10: Police of city station arrested the driver and confiscated the truck that killed a pedestrian at Kedinje.

On the night of May 25, Laxman Murmu, Ghanshyam Murmu and Karan Murumu of Odisha origin, were walking on the side of the road at Kedinje. A truck that was going towards Karkala hit Ghanshyam and Karan. Both of them sustained serious injuries and lost their consciousness.

When Ghanshyam and Karan were being shifted to hospital, Ghanshyam died on the way. A case in this regard was registered in Karkala police station. The driver escaped with the truck after the accident.

Karkala CI Nagaraj and team took all details and also checked nearby CCTVs and succeeded in apprehending the culprit.

Truck driver and owner Suresh Shetty, resident of B C Road in Kundapur caused the accident due to overspeed and then made sure that no one gets the clue. After the accident, Suresh parked the vehicle on an inside road and later kept the truck for service in a garage at Kundapur.

Police arrested Suresh and handed him over to judicial custody.
