Puttur: Girl student dies after consuming poison in hostel

Puttur, Jun 12: A girl student from Kokkada, residing in a hostel in Padil, Puttur, tragically took her own life by consuming poison on June 11.

The deceased has been identified as Rekha (15), daughter of Sridhara Acharya, a resident of Netrala in Kokkada village.

Rekha's mother, Pushpa, passed away last year, and her father works as a daily wage laborer. Rekha had been mentally distressed following her mother's demise. She had been staying at a relative's house and attending school from there.

Initially, Rekha had hesitated to join the Padil hostel in Puttur, but eventually agreed after much persuasion. It is reported that she expressed her dislike for the hostel and found English to be a challenging subject. During her time in Kokkada, she used to socialize with her friends and was known to excel academically.

A case has been registered at the Puttur police station in this connection.

    Sad sad.A teenager alone after mother died should have been a bit psychologically consoled by specialists or known relatives .Was upset with whole situation.Hostel was for her quite different .She wanted some homely circustances ?May her soul rest in peace.Poor father must be now with all things in a very sad situation ?Heartfelt sympathy to him.Hope someone helps him some organisation etc.

    It is getting serious and worrisome trend. Youth and teenagers, feel there is no hope in their future. Students find there are no jobs when they graduate. Graduate find there are no right vacancies that they can apply. Employed find they are paid pea-nuts. With day to day expenses raising, its getting worse day by day. Gone are the days when a family rolling beedies in evening, doing farm job during the day, getting rations from govt, can dream of building a house and educating kids with professional courses like Doctor or Engineer. Today, its a everyday slog for middle class. Hope that freebies offerred by congress, do helps them if not big way, but as a start of some relief.
