Karnataka BJP demands safety measures for students after school girl's death

Bengaluru, Jun 13 (IANS): The Karnataka BJP unit on Tuesday demanded the state's Congress government to ensure safety measures for students following the death of a school girl after falling from the footboard of an overcrowded bus.

Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that due to cancellation of bus services, people have been inconvenienced and school students are being forced to travel on footboards of overcrowded buses in the state.

"There was a tragic incident reported from Haveri district. The Congress government must prevent these incidents from occurring. The system should not collapse," he underlined.

On Monday, the girl was on the way to school in Kusanuru village. She had boarded an overcrowded bus and was on the footboard, when she lost balance and fell.

She had sustained severe injuries on her head.

Locals have stated that there as a lack of bus facilities in the region.

Due to this, people are forced to travel in overcrowded buses, neglecting their safety.

Police have taken up the case for investigation.

Meanwhile, Bommai also demanded that school children in the state must be provided with bus facilities to ensure their safety.

"We had given an order in this regard and set aside an amount in the budget. If the transport sector is not given money, the buses will stop plying.

"The buses should run on all routes as per schedule. It is the duty of the Karnataka Road Transport Corporation to ensure this. Let the Congress government implement the schemes to help people and women. But, the complaints are coming that in that pretext the buses are cancelled, operation of buses in many routes are cancelled," he said.

The former Chief Minister further said that "there is a good programme, the planning and preparation should be proper. Within a week all these issues must be resolved otherwise the objective of making free travel for women won't succeed".

It will cost peanuts for the government to develop and implement a safety measure in government buses that allows the bus to move only after the doors get shut.

Very good comments Mr.Bommai. Were you the CM few months back? What safety measurement were taken by then? The school just started in June 1st. You should have deployed the busses last year itself. All off sudden the population will not grow so large that only after you came in opposition the busess started overcrowding? You can fool andh bhakts but any of us. We have our eyes and ears open. Why don't you show your concenrn on the train tragedy of orissa? what are your concerns where Bridge on Ganges river came down before it was completed? what about so many accidents taken during your tenure? If you have money even you can donate some private transport to these village areas as some charity. Why dont you do that? Then will say that you have some real concern on the poor people.

If BJP is demanding security for girl students, then we reject, because it is from BJP. This kind of mentality prevails in DK in many. They are still so much buried in the past that they are OK to take the risk. They have a politcally motivated term andh bhakts. See the comments, you will be introduced to real Andh bhakts who are forever groping in the dark regarding their true identity. Joker class...they will have tough time justifying nidderamayya and will eventually learn, that they were taken for a ride and each time Congis succeeded because this class never learns.
