Mangaluru: MRPL holds Cyber Surakshata Saptaha with city police, CyberSapiens

Mangaluru, Jun 14: MRPL employees collaborated with the Mangaluru City Police and CyberSapiens to celebrate Cyber Surakshata Saptaha. This event was aimed to raise awareness among employees about cybercrimes and cybercriminals. Several topics were covered during the event, including phishing, social media safety, bank fraud, and mobile safety. Additionally, demonstrations were conducted to show how hackers and fraudsters can steal data.

The event was hosted by MRPL, with Sathisha G J, police inspector of CEN crime police station Mangaluru, as the main guest, Mohammed Nawaz Sajjad, security analyst from Cybersapiens along with Shashidhar Patgar, forensics expert from Cybersapiens was one of the speakers. However, it's commendable that MRPL took the initiative to organize such an event to promote cybercrime awareness and ensure the safety of its employees. 

Phishing is a type of cyber attack where the attacker masquerades as a trustworthy entity to deceive individuals into revealing sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, credit card details, or other personal data. Phishing attacks are typically carried out through fraudulent emails, instant messages, or fake websites that mimic legitimate organizations or individuals.

Social media has become an integral part of everyone's lives, allowing to connect with others, share information, and express oneself. However, it is important to prioritize one's safety and privacy while using social media platforms. Some of the tips shared by Shashidhar were, to use strong and unique passwords, privacy settings, be selective with friend requests, think before you share, beware of phishing and scams, secure accounts, regularly update apps and privacy settings, be mindful of location based Features, be wary of third-party apps and report and block suspicious accounts.

Remember, social media safety requires active participation and awareness. By implementing these practices, one can enjoy the benefits of social media while safeguarding privacy and security.
