Arrests made in case of religious insult, threats against mobile shop employee

Beltangady, Jun 14: The Beltangady station police have arrested Ranjith Maddadka and Umesh Kulal, who have been accused of insulting a religion, assaulting an individual, and making death threats against an employee of a mobile telephone shop. These actions were allegedly in response to the employee's WhatsApp status in support of Mahesh Shetty Timorodi. The two accused have been presented in the district court and have been remanded to judicial custody.

A case has been registered at the police station based on a complaint filed by Yashwant Naika (19), a resident of Kasba village, against Umesh Kulal, secretary of the BJP Yuva Morcha, Ranjith, and others. The case has been registered under IPC sections 504, 506, 323, 34, and section 3(1)(S) of the SC/ST Act.

The accused will remain in custody until the next court hearing.
