Srinagar, Jul 20: A college student who was supposed to get married on July 23 was arrested in the valley over alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba links.
The 22-year-old Qurat-ul-Ain was arrested on July 10. The Jammu and Kashmir Police today got her police remand extended till July 26 three days past her wedding date.
The girl is a resident of Jalalabad in Sopore and was enrolled in a B.Ed course.
The police have accused her of being a Lashkar operative and have charged her with murder linking her to a recent attack at a police station in Sopore that left one dead and 10 injured.
“Her activities were under surveillance as Qurat was initially working as an overground worker for LeT militant Hamza,” a spokesperson said. When Hamza was killed in an encounter, she allegedly started working for Uni.
Qurat’s family accused the police of framing her. They threatened to conduct protests if she was not released by Jul 22.
