Kolkata, Jul 20 (IANS): An eco-tourism park will come up soon on the outskirts of Kolkata at the intiative of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
"We want to set up an eco-tourism park. It will give the Kolkatans a much needed scope to go for an outing on the outskirts," Banerjee told mediapersons.
Banerjee was doing a recce of the spot in Rajarhat in the north east fringes of the city here Tuesday, soon after arriving from Darjeeling in north Bengal.
Banerjee, who attended the signing of the Darjeeling tripartite pact and launched a slew of development projects during her two day trip to the northern district, went straight to Rajarhat to inspect the site.
Municipal affairs urban development minister Firhad Halim and city mayor Sovan Chatterjee accompanied her.
"It can be a cultural, sports and education hub. There is a beautiful water body here which we can utilise. This will also ensure employment for the locals," she said.
Banerjee instructed Halim and the mayor to arrange for a feasibility study of the project soon.
