Mangaluru, June 15: Sadashiva Acharya, a resident of Ullalbail here has received a bill for Rs 7 lacs for the power consumed at his residence. The stunned residents were asked by the meter reader to obtain clarifications about the bill at the Mescom office.

The bill has denoted a consumption of 99,338 units of electricity amounting to Rs 7,71,072. Sadashiva Acharya said that they have been receiving an average monthly bill of about Rs 3,000 and they have been paying it every month regularly. People of his house were shocked beyond doubt looking at the new bill, he said.

Dayananda, executive engineer of Mescom sub-division, Ullal said that bills are issued through agencies. The bill was printed wrongly due to the fault of the meter reader. The bill should not be handed over to the subscriber if there are such mistakes. He said that a new bill will be issued to the consumer.

Later, a bill for Rs 2,833 was sent to Sadashiva Acharya's residence this afternoon.

I have said again and again - do a thorough and full audit of MESCOM. You will find why charge rates are high and if the system is being abused.

Just like in metropolitan city like Bombay having various electric supply companies like Maharashtra State Electricity Board, Adani Electric Company, Bombay Electric and Supply Transport, Torrent Electric Company so too MtESCOM should be split into various companies (players) to avoid complete dominancy and encourage healthy competition for sustainability and to ensure uninterrupted power supply with least inconvenience to customers which is totally lacking due to miscommunication and monopolistic mentality which is the urgent need of the hour.

Which authority? It's a power utility company, which is supposed to give top class service for the charges it collects; they are not doing any favour to the customer!!
