Udupi, June 16: Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao M has warned the project director of NH 66 to resolve the Santhekatte underpass issue within the next three days. He said that there is a risk of the collapse of NH 66 during the monsoon due to the trench that has been dug up for the underpass.
He was speaking after presiding over the meeting over the need to take up urgent measures relating to the national highway in view of the rainy season.
He asked the authorities to take up scientific safety measures at black spots identified by the police department on NH66 and submit a report to him. He also directed to set right the problems being faced for the UGD system.
He asked the authorities to also axe the tree branches that hinder traffic on NH 169a and hold discussions with state advocate general to vacate the court stay order against highway work at Parkala and resume the work soon.
He asked to take up the work on the foot over bridge near Manipal Syndicate circle and to ensure smooth movement of people thereby preventing excessive traffic density near Kalsanka junction and Tiger circle. He also asked the authorities to install streetlights from Manipal till Kalsanka highway.
DSP Akshay M Hakay, IAS officer under training Yathish, National highway authority project director Abdulla Mohammed Azmi, Udupi tahsildar Ravi Angadi, municipal commissioner Ramesh Nayak, NH 169a division engineer Nagaraj and others were present.
