Mangaluru, Jun 17: Several grievances on traffic issues of the city came to light during the 'Sanchara Samparka Divasa' programme organised by the Mangaluru city traffic police at Lions Ashoka Seva Bhavan here on Saturday June 17.

Police commissioner Kuldeep R Jain presided over the programme.

One of the members of the public suggested that the traffic police should mark yellow and zig-zag grid for easy flow of traffic. He stated that the yellow grid should be marked on roads at Karangalpady and other prominent junctions in the city. He also complained that the traffic signal at KPT junction is placed on the wrong side. The vehicles coming from the AJ Hospital road towards KPT junction are not visible properly to commuters.

A social activist said, "When vehicles were parked in non-parking areas, the traffic police would earlier lock the wheel of the vehicles, but now they are clicking photographs. In this case, the public will get notice after several months. If the police department locks the wheel of four-wheelers, the person who has violated traffic norms will realise his mistake.”

He also raised the issue that auto-rickshaws are being parked in unauthorized parking areas in Car Street. This creates problems for visitors who visit the temple here, he said.

Jayasheel Adyanthaya, president of the Dakshina Kannada District Bus Operators Association said that the traffic signals in KPT and Nanthoor Junction are creating problems for the private buses. He also added that the public is suffering without shelter at bus stand in state bank.

A citizen complained that the students who come to the city from outer states are violating the traffic rules. “They are involved in reckless driving, triple riding and not using authentic number plates. The hospitals and other institutions which are working for commercial purposes are not providing parking facilities. Due to this, the public who visit these institutions and hospitals are parking their vehicles on the roadsides which is leading to traffic problems in the city.

An auto-rickshaw driver alleged that a pre-paid counter at the railway station is being run illegally.

Several others also complained that a few auto-rickshaw drivers are not following the permit norms.

DCP B P Dinesh Kumar and others were present. 'Sanchara Samparka Divasa' will be held on the third Saturday of every month.

Many a times we see the bikes especially the 150 cc sport bikes , the number plates are intentionally turned upside facing sky or inside ..at times even discolored so to avoid being noticed of reckless driving..I think this is a major mess.Request the officials to keep check on this.. The police also needs to have a website where such erring riders are escalted unanimously so that to avoid personal vengeance.

If you notice a traffic offense, just take a photo of the vehicle showing the offense and the number plate, send it to the traffic police. They will collect fines and the person ( ordinarily) will not commit the offense again.
