Mumbai, Jul 21 (IANS): A benchmark index for Indian equities Thursday closed 78 points lower as traders booked profits on a volatile trading day.
The 30-scrip sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) opened at 18,514.65 points and closed at 18,424.72, down 77.66 points or 0.42 percent from its previous close at 18,502.38 points.
The 50-scrip S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange closed in the red as well at 5,540.15 points, down 0.48 percent.
Consumer durables, realty and banking stocks fell, while IT stocks saw gains.
