Mangaluru, Jun 20: Congress leaders staged a protest here at Mini Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday June 20 against the BJP-led central government for ‘denying’ rice for the state's 'Anna Bhagya' scheme which offers 10 kg rice to each member of families living below the poverty line.

Addressing the media, KPCC vice president B Ramanath Rai said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is never working for the welfare of the poor. He is functioning for the wellbeing of businessmen. The BJP government cannot tolerate the developments done by the state government. The Congress government has implemented many schemes for the benefit of the poor, but the BJP government has never fulfilled the promises which they have made to the voters. They should be ashamed. The BJP leaders will be cursed by the poor for denying rice for the state's 'Anna Bhagya' scheme.

Former MLA J R Lobo said, “The Congress government has fulfilled four schemes which were promised during the legislative election, but the 'Anna Bhagya' scheme is kept on hold due to the central government. The BJP government is working in favour of businessmen like Adani and Ambani. They have never completed the works in their term and also fooling the voters through false promises.”

MLC Harish Kumar said, “The central government is trying to hamper the Congress’ welfare schemes by not supplying rice which is also affecting the benefits provided to the poor. The BJP government is against the welfare of the poor.”

Congress leaders Abhayachandra Jain, Inayath Ali, A C Vinayaraj, Naveen D’Souza, Mamatha Gatty, Appi and others were present.

First of all BPL (below poverty line) to be specified and get real / true BPL people from time to time (may be in every 6 months). Now people with their own house , property, 4 wheelers and 2 wheelers in the house and house members employed in private co. who are buying 4 - 5 Ltr petrol for their vehicles per day are also considered as BPL people. Many of them hide their information. Middle class is suffering . They never get such things. whatever they earn is not enough for them to spend whereas the BPL card holders are leading good life at the expense of tax payers. They need not work also now. So, please find out the real BPL people and issue BPL card after proper investigation. There may be 1% to 3% of population of Karnataka are eligible for BPL card.

Don’t worry about congress’s promises. Congress will fulfill them one way or other come what may. Congress was aware of this and it was expected of BJP so congress has done its home work. But why should Karnataka let go of its rightful share as it is earning revenue and GST more than BJP ruled states and giving it to centre. BTW, Karnataka is not asking for free rice from centre but buying from centre and giving free to poor without any profit. BJP should put politics aside and think of poor. BJP should come out of the perception that by denying rice it’s strangulating Karnataka govt financially and weakening politically but BJP is totally mistaken and it will back fire on BJP as congress has gone through these challenges and survived 140 years as a party.

If you are eligible, you have the democratic right to request your share from the government. However, individuals who voted for congress are not asking for it, whereas others like you who did not vote for congress are eager to collect all the bhagyas. Dont worry even this promise will be fulfilled by congress and it wont go the FEKU way of15 lakhs.

Before election congress promised to give 10 kg rice to every member of BPL family. Central govt already giving 5 kg rice to every BPL family member. So congress has to give extra 10 kg rice. But now they are planning to give only 5 kg rice. By cheating people only they came to power.

Modi, Shah and Nadda claimed during their election rallies, "if people of Karnataka dont vote for BJP, they will have to suffer"! BJP is keeping up their words, nothing else. This will backfire them in next LS election. State BJP leaders pressurizing Congress govt to implement rice distribution scheme immediately, but doesn't have any guts to question Central govt, for supplying rice. Afterall, Center is not supplying additional rice for free!!!
