Christian body writes to PM seeking President's rule in Manipur

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 20 (IANS): A Christian organisation based out of Kerala on Tuesday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding imposition of President's rule in ethnic violence-hit Manipur.

The Assembly of Christian Trust Services (ACTS), which has two Bishops as its chief patrons, said in the letter that as no lasting remedy has been found so far in Manipur, it requests an emergency interference by the Central government.

"Even after the visit of Home Minister Amit Shah, there is no respite to the troubled situation in Manipur. In this context, we request the Central government to impose President's rule in Manipur in order to ensure the safety and peaceful coexistence of people," the letter read.

Modi is in America. Heads of Christians like Pope, Senators and Congressmen need to question him about his silence.

Where did you get the idea that opening the mouth will solve poblem. Even if he opens the mouth you will find some problem here or there. As per the ground reports Kukis fear that Meitis will get more powerful at their expense if ST reservations are extended to Meitis. Meitis resent that they cannot buy Land in the hills where Kukis are in majority while kukis can buy land in the valley where Meitis are in the majority. Meitis also fear that more & more influx of Kukis from outside the state especially Burma will outnumber them and weaken them in the longer term. Kukis are also in the BJP. one faction of Kukis support BJP. Situation is very complicated.

Is this your complicated long report existed long before or just after elections???..?….. How was the state peaceful before this mayhem when congress was ruling??.?……You created this problem intentionally after winning elections. PM Modi’s silence and not holding all party meeting to resolve the issue proves the fact. Nach Na Aaye Aagan Theda.

Ganesh, you comment is very biased and tilted towards the Meiteis, no idea for what reason. Where did you get the idea that Kukis can buy land and Meiteis cant? Read 6th Schedule and then comment here rather than propagating wrong ideas by acting too smart. No one can buy or sell land in sixth schedule areas which includes almost the entire of northeast.

Mr Indian, most of the Northeast had their own tribal beleifs before organised religion began influencing them. Meities demand to be categorised inside ST was long before BJP came to power. while extending reservation is a matter that has to be deliberated by the political class. there is a treamendous pressure built on the ground by the people. It is a catch 22 situation. There is history of tribals attacking each other. Long before this crisis Nagas and kukis had fought a bitter battle which led to as much deaths as now. Sixth schedule provisions exist in states ofAssam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram and not in Manipur.

A step in the right direction. Fresh elections should be called 1 year after president’s rule. Same should be imposed in Kashmir. Both states are facing Emergency Like situation.

If he was P.M (Prime minister) of India, Christians need not write to him. It is his job to resolve such issues without asking for it.
